O*NET OnLine Help Browse Bright Outlook Occupations

Bright Outlook occupations are expected to grow rapidly in the next several years, will have large numbers of job openings, or are new and emerging occupations. The Bright Outlook browse feature allows you to explore occupations in each of these categories. In the example that follows, “Numerous Job Openings” is selected from the pull-down menu.

The subsequent screen provides a list of occupations that are projected to have large numbers of job openings in the next several years.

These occupations are projected to have 100,000 or more job openings over the period 2022-2032 for the US nationwide.

Each occupation designated as Bright Outlook matches at least one of the following criteria:

• Rapid Growth — These occupations are projected to grow faster than average (employment increase of 5% or more) over the period 2022-2032 for the US nationwide. Source: Bureau of Labor Statistics external site 2022-2032 employment projections. Projected growth represents the estimated change in total employment over the projections period (2022-2032).
• Numerous Job Openings — These occupations are projected to have 100,000 or more job openings over the period 2022-2032 for the US nationwide. Source: Bureau of Labor Statistics external site 2022-2032 employment projections. Projected job openings represent openings due to growth and replacement.
• New and Emerging — These occupations are New & Emerging occupations.
