Overview
To provide oversight and coordination of mortgage loan origination for purchases and refinances for a particular section of Mortgage Production/Field Mortgage. Conduct and coordinate training for the section staff to ensure loan application and documentation conform to loan product requirements and federal, state, local regulations, as well as NFCU and NCUA requirements. Provide oversight and coordination of mortgage loan workflow and productivity. Supervise section team members and activities.
Responsibilities
Supervise and direct operations to ensure production goals, service level agreements and corporate objectives are met
Identify, initiate, and drive change strategies to improve departmental efficiencies
Collaborate with various levels of staff as well as processing/closing teams to ensure purchase and refinance loans are closed expeditiously with appropriate documentation
Review and evaluate mortgage purchase and refinance loan applications to ensure viability (member's debt to income ratio and compensating factors) and compliance with Federal and Navy Federal guidelines, performing file audits, as needed to confirm viable loan applications (income, asset, credit, etc.)
Review loan files for accuracy of estimated closing costs and initial loan rate / point structure
Audit for SLA, accuracy, and documentation completion for "Green Light" transfer to PC team
Provide assistance and direction on complex/unique or unusual loans
Resolve escalated member issues and problems
Train team members and/or peers on functional processes and procedures
Ensure compliance with documentation and disclosure requirements
Identify and resolve issues with closing attorney/agent, realtor, or other related party
Work with Mortgage Trainers to receive and distribute current information regarding loan program changes, automated system changes, underwriting requirements and documentation requirements for purchases and refinances
Analyze changes in policies, procedures, and products; determine the impact on the functions of the section
Monitor daily production reports, for "action items", driving purchase and refinance loan production and staff work volume; adjust assignments to meet fluctuating workload
Assist with marketing efforts and promotional activities for members and real estate
professionals through financial presentations, real estate organizations and other local events
Perform supervisory/managerial responsibilities:
Act as Manager in the incumbent's absence
Supervise daily activities, coach, counsel, and document employee performance
Prepare and conduct and review performance appraisals
Lead recruiting efforts for effective selection of new section team members
Ensure compliance with all HR related policies, practices, and procedures, such as timekeeping, recruiting, compensation, separations, leave usage, etc.
Direct ongoing training for staff; coach, evaluate, and provide corrective guidance; provide regular feedback to staff on their performance based upon key performance indicators; evaluate training to ascertain effectiveness
Provide input on budget requirements for Annual Financial Plan
Ensure efficiency of operations, identify operational issues, and make recommendations for improvement
Performs other duties as assigned
Qualifications
Working knowledge of Navy Federal mortgage products, services, programs, policies, and procedures
Working knowledge of conventional, FHA, VA loans & RESPA guidelines
Experience working in a high volume, fast paced environment
Experience in compliance analysis
Experience in leading, guiding, and mentoring others
Ability to interpret and apply regulations, instructions, and procedures
If selected, will be required, prior to the assumption of employment duties, to register with the Nationwide Mortgage Licensing System and Registry; includes fingerprinting and background checks
Effective skill maintaining accuracy with attention to detail and meeting deadlines
Effective verbal and written communication skills
Effective word processing and spreadsheet software skills
Effective skill exercising initiative and using good judgment to make sound decisions
Effective organizational, planning and time management skills
Desired Qualification(s)
Working knowledge of Navy Federal products, services, programs, policies, and procedures Bank Secrecy Section
Familiarity with financial institution and mortgage lending practices, principles, and regulations
Working knowledge of Navy Federal mortgage products, services, programs, policies, and procedures
Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration or the equivalent combination of training, education, and experience
Hours: Monday - Friday, 8:30AM - 5:00PM, Hybrid 3 days in office
