Our Product Support and Logistics Division (PSLD) is one of the most innovative divisions within Caterpillar. In PSLD, as within all of Caterpillar, our priority is our customers and helping them build a better world. We touch nearly every element of the services value stream from procurement to design and manufacturing to distribution. PSLD is responsible for Aftermarket Parts Distribution of Cat Parts, Integrated Logistics, segment Procurement and the design and manufacture of Wear Components (Undercarriage and GET) and Maintenance Components (Seals, Tubes & Hardware, Hose & Couplings, Fluids and Filters).

As the Manager, Transportation on the International Trade Lane Management team, you will be responsible for developing and managing strategy and transportation processes, collaborating with our Global Dealer Network and North American Manufacturing facilities on transportation solutions for Caterpillar Prime Product that best meet the dealer’s needs. You will use data drive approaches and analysis to improve the order-to-delivery performance in out Outbound Logistics network.

What You Will Do:

  • Oversee the end-to-end transportation of US-sourced Engine/Gen Set Prime Product orders to global dealers.

  • Work effectively with diverse multi-functional teams to apply the supply chain planning process and lead team efforts to develop optimal order-to-delivery transportation flow.

  • Accountable for day-to-day results of managing the operations to meet the agreed upon key performance indicators (KPI’s) to ensure process effectiveness.

  • Develop, implement, and manage strategy and processes for transportation customers.

  • Investigate and recommend transportation solutions to complex supply network issues.

  • Lower and/or manage transportation costs while meeting delivery expectations of our customers.

  • Collaborate with the procurement category to help manage freight partners to meet on time delivery performance and drive process improvements.

  • Manage a team of Transportation specialists located in North America.

  • Manage transportation and transportation related supply chain processes for the Outbound Logistics Network from Caterpillar manufacturing plants.

  • Coordination of multiple transportation providers; including rail, truck, air and ocean assets.

  • Other duties as assigned by Caterpillar management from time-to-time.

What You Have (Basic Requirements):

  • Process Management: Knowledge of business process improvement tools and techniques; ability to understand, monitor, update, control, or enhance existing business or work processes.

  • Employs process flows, cycle time, process time, and waste concepts as appropriate.

  • Walks through steps, decisions, measurements, dependencies, and hand-offs for a specific process.

  • Creates process flow or workflow diagrams.

  • Document types of process decisions and potential impact of each decision.

  • Identifies and monitors common process bottlenecks.

  • Analytical Thinking: Knowledge of techniques and tools that promote effective analysis; ability to determine the root cause of organizational problems and create alternative solutions that resolve these problems.

  • Problem Solving: Knowledge of approaches, tools, techniques for recognizing, anticipating, and resolving organizational, operational or process problems; ability to apply knowledge of problem solving appropriately to diverse situations.

  • Relationship Management: Knowledge of relationship management techniques; ability to establish and maintain healthy working relationships with clients, vendors, and peers.

  • Transportation: Knowledge of and experience with the means of transporting materials and goods to and from suppliers, distribution centers, manufacturing facilities, and customers.

  • Works with at least one type of transportation mode and carrier.

  • Ensure on time shipments; anticipates and resolves shipping problems.

  • Describes common costs and associated billing and freight payment procedures.

  • Describes pros and cons of different types of domestic transportation alternatives.

  • Recounts process for issuing bids and analyzing responses from carriers.

  • Logistics Management: Knowledge of the processes, tools and operational considerations for effective and efficient movement of goods and materials; ability to understand, predict and control the movement of goods, materials, and supplies.
