Objective & Scope

The Production Hi-lo Driver is responsible for ensuring efficient material flow within the plant by keeping operations stocked with materials and supplies. All aspects & functions involved in Materials Operations.

Responsibilities, Duties & Authority

⦁ Keep presses and work centers supplied with containers, parts, material and/or components; and the removal of containers as they are filled with work in process material, finished goods and/or scrap. It should be the first priority of all Hi-lo drivers to support production and eliminate unnecessary downtime.

⦁ Verify that material and product has been properly identified with part number and operation number.

⦁ Before product is to be placed in final audit, work in process, or finished goods, the container is to be weight counted (if not standard pack).

⦁ All nonconforming products entering the hold area are to be identified with a part number, quantity and defect description. It is the responsibility of the Hi-lo driver to verify this information prior to moving material into the hold area. Partial coils must be weighed prior to placing in the hold area.

⦁ Operate the Hi-lo in a safe and responsible manner, abiding by the rules of safe Hi-lo operation and complete a daily Hi-lo checklist for the maintenance department. The Hi-lo driver is responsible to notify the maintenance department and their supervisor if the Hi-lo is not operating correctly.

⦁ When scrap material is taken to the scrap hoppers, it is the responsibility of the Hi-lo driver to empty scrap from containers into the correct scrap hopper.

⦁ Support scrap pickup activities as required including weight certification of scrap containers.

⦁ Baskets are to be cleaned out and all tags and labels removed. Correct tare weights must be put on containers prior to use.

⦁ Monitor availability of steel at presses and load steel at presses when needed.

⦁ Ensure that company policies and procedures are adhered to including IATF16949, ISO14001 (EMS), and Employee Handbook.

⦁ Follows MIOSHA and MPTSH safety regulations and policies, including wearing required P.P.E. (Personal Protective Equipment). Reports unsafe conditions to Supervisor/Leader.

⦁ Participate in EOS Focus Groups.

⦁ Support and participate in division and department improvement initiatives through Continuous Improvement Suggestion Program, and sharing of knowledge, ideas, and/or best practices with co-workers.

⦁ Responsible to maintain professional and cooperative communication with all other employees. Treat co-workers with dignity and respect and in accordance with the Magna Employee’s Charter and Common Values.

⦁ Complies with the designated ISO / 14001 responsibilities related to effective environmental management in accordance with MPT’s Environmental Management System (EMS).

Education and/or Experience

Minimum 2 years’ experience as a Hi-lo driver in a manufacturing environment. Ability to follow MIOSHA safety requirements. Knowledge and compliance of safety procedures and policies required. Good communication skills (written and verbal). Demonstrates creativity, initiative, and problem solving skills. Team oriented work approach and ability to work with others in a team environment. Ability to work overtime as required. Excellent attendance and performance record. Demonstrates Core Values. Proficient experience of bar coding system. Self-starter who is positive and professional. Ability to work in a fast paced and sometimes stressful environment.

Additional Information

Language Skills : Ability to read and comprehend instructions in English and correspondence such as safety rules and operating instructions. Ability to document forms as required by position. Ability to understand, speak and write English required.

Mathematical Skills : Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio and percent.

Computer Skills : To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of AS400 and ability to use bar code labeling system.

Reasoning Skills : Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

Communication Skills : Ability to use active listening. Ability to give positive and constructive criticism feedback effectively.

Problem Solving Skills : Ability to think process oriented and apply the MPTSH standard structured problem-solving process.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee must regularly sit, stand and walk, talk and listen, use a computer and operate a forklift. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision and ability to adjust focus. The employee is frequently required to reach with hands and arms; bend, climb or balance; stoop, kneel, and crouch. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. General good health to meet fast paced environment, and sometimes high stress situations. Must be able to function in very fast pace moving environment.
