We’re looking for an amazing ISM Manager(International Safety Management) which will be based in our Santa Clarita, CA office. This is a hybrid, in-office role. You’ll work in person (in office) Tuesday to Thursday each week. You’ll manage Internal ISM Ship and Office Audits, addressing findings promptly and coordinating scheduling for internal Audits. This role entails overseeing the development, management, and enhancement of the company's Safety Management System (SMS), referred to as Global HESS (GHESS). It serves as a liaison between various departments, Carnival Corporation, and Princess Cruises, ensuring the publication and updates of all policies, procedures, and related materials. Collaboration with shipboard personnel and Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) is essential to address and resolve findings effectively, while representing Designated Person Ashore (DPA) interests and working closely with shoreside and shipboard teams to resolve any arising issues.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) to identify root causes of audit findings. Develop comprehensive action plans to address identified issues. Ensure proof of completion for action items and work towards closing, resolving, and completing findings.

  • Maintain a strong working relationship with the internal auditing group (RAAS), ensuring clear communication regarding audit schedules, findings, and any necessary clarifications or changes. Effectively communicate audit program updates and findings to relevant stakeholders, including DPAs, management, and other involved parties through presentations, meetings, and email correspondence. Maintain operational awareness of ships' activities as they relate to the audit program and engage with relevant stakeholders as needed.

  • Prepare, present, and facilitate audit reviews for DPAs and management, ensuring clarity and thoroughness in presentation. Conduct follow-up activities as necessary following audit reviews to address any outstanding issues or concerns. Track, review, analyze, and present relevant data to management through periodic, annual, and monthly reporting, providing insights for continuous improvement.

  • Maintain oversight of ISM internal audits and follow-up audits, ensuring adherence to established processes and standards. Track the status of audit findings to closure and work towards standardization of audit processes. Initiate suggestions for policies related to audit activities, develop proposed wording, and seek approval for audit-related policies, initiatives, and continuous improvement efforts. Identify and analyse trends in audit findings and facilitate further actions, such as process improvements or additional training, as applicable.

  • Publish new and revised policies, procedures, and associated attachments to the GHESS (Global Health, Environment, Safety, and Security) system. Ensure accuracy and completeness of documentation, and compliance with relevant regulations and standards.

  • Coordinate and implement both minor and major enhancements to the GHESS system in collaboration with Corporate and IT teams. Facilitate communication between stakeholders to ensure timely and effective implementation of enhancements.

  • Manage the Suggestions and Self-Reported Non-Conformities modules within the GHESS system for Princess. Provide analysis of multiple modules throughout the system on a regular basis (weekly, monthly, quarterly), identifying trends, areas for improvement, and potential risks. Oversee the Task module within the system, ensuring tasks are properly assigned, tracked, and updated as necessary.

  • Troubleshoot problems encountered both onboard and shoreside related to the GHESS system, providing timely resolution and support to users. Collaborate with relevant teams and stakeholders to address technical issues and ensure system functionality.

  • May require ship travel to assist with audits or inspections.

  • May need to particulate in emergency response role as needed.

  • Act as SME in investigations

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Nautical Science, Deck, Engine License or equivalent maritime certification

  • Minimum 5 years maritime industry or seagoing experience as Deck or Engine Officer (preferred)

  • Experience working with a safety management system program and providing feedback or developing new procedures for continuous improvement of that system.

  • Knowledgeable in Passenger Shipping Operations (preferred)

  • Experience working with a safety management system program and providing feedback or developing new procedures for continuous improvement of that system (preferred)

  • Experience working with Microsoft Office

  • Effective oral/written communication skills, analytical and problem-solving skills

  • Travel expectation up to 25%.

  • Base Salary Range: $84,100.00 to $113,600.00. The range is applicable for the labor market where the role is intended to be hired. Final base salary is directly related to each candidates' qualifications and experience uniquely.
