About the Position: This position is located at the JBLM Maintenance Division, Ground Maintenance Branch on Joint Base Lewis-McChord, WA. Responsibilities Utilize a current Commercial Drivers License (CDL) to operate various prime movers to include but not limited to semi-trucks and trailers, flatbeds, and maintenance service trucks to a total gross vehicle weight (GVW) of 48,500 pounds. Operates forklifts to load and unload cargo. Schedules all material handling equipment (MHE) for regularly scheduled maintenance based on equipment hours of operation or established periodic intervals. Operates and maintains a satellite accumulation area (SAA) for the collection of hazardous material (e.g., brake fluid, antifreeze, oil and other materials, empty containers, gloves, etc.). Train, test, and issue licenses to material handling equipment (MHE) operators for gas, electric, and propane forklifts up to 50,000-pound capacity and warehouse tractors for Joint Base Lewis McChord (JBLM) and local surrounding Federal Agencies. Perform minor repair tasks on material handling equipment (MHE) such as changing tires, batteries, flat tires; replacing fan belts, lights, bulbs, etc., as directed by the supervisor. Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of an Motor Vehicle Operator without more than normal supervision to include: (1) Operating a variety of motor vehicles such as: sedans, pick-up trucks, and vans to transport authorized personnel, material, and/or equipment; (2) Determining which routes to take due to the size and weight of the vehicle and/or the laws restricting the use of some roads by some vehicles; and (3) Proper loading procedures to ensure correct weight distribution to avoid imbalance. I work under normal supervision of a work leader or journey-level employee who observes tasks in progress and upon completion to make sure they are properly performed. - Failure to meet this Screen Out Element will result in an ineligible rating. Ability To Do The Work Of The Position Without More Than Normal Supervision Ability to Handle Weights and Loads Ability to Interpret Instructions, Specifications, etc. (Related to Mobile Equipment Operation) Operation of Motor Vehicles Work Practices (Including Keeping Things Neat, Clean, and in Order) PHYSICAL EFFORT: Physical effort is used in reaching, bending, turning or moving hands, arms, feet and legs to operate hand and foot controls. Required to stand, stoop, bend, stretch and work in tiring and uncomfortable positions. Frequently lifts and carries items weighing up to 40 pounds; occasionally handles heavier items. WORKING CONDITIONS: Works outside subject to bad weather conditions when operating motor vehicles, loading and unloading MHE, or performing minor repair tasks. Office work is performed in a well-lighted, heated, and ventilated shop area which is sometimes noisy and drafty. Subject to cuts, bruises, and broken bones as a result of accidents while driving or when loading and unloading MHE and when performing minor repair tasks. Education Additional Information Male applicants born after December 31, 1959, must complete a Pre-Employment Certification Statement for Selective Service Registration. You will be required to provide proof of U.S. Citizenship. One year trial/probationary period may be required. Direct deposit of pay is required. This is a Logistics Career Field position.
