The anticipated salary range for this role is between $94,500.00 and $116,000.00. The specific salary offered to an applicant will be based on their individual qualifications, experiences, and an analysis of the current compensation paid in their geography and the market for similar roles at the time of hire. The role may also be eligible for an annual discretionary incentive award. In addition to cash compensation, SMBC offers a competitive portfolio of benefits to its employees.

JOB SUMMARY

The Relationship Manager will be responsible for assisting in driving business development sale as well as monitoring the quality of new and existing portfolios. They will help coordinate with SMBC (Americas & Asia) and other referral sources to bring in and deepen the relationship of assigned customers and prospects. Assist in managing the overall relationship profitability and portfolio risk and providing a positive experience to customers and colleagues while operating within the Bank’s risk appetite, achieves results by consistently identifying, assessing, managing, monitoring, and reporting risks of all types.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Assist in achieving sales goals and contributing to the growth of Bank loan and deposit portfolio.

  • This position requires a strong understanding of Deposit Accounts, Services and Products.

  • Work with product partners (Middle Office, Portfolio Managers, Cash Management Sales, International, Treasury, etc..) to analyze, evaluate and develop a tailored relationship strategy for each client or prospect.

  • Ensure that customer relationships are managed to maximize the opportunity for the Bank, while considering risk and customer needs.

  • Work with other Relationship Managers to identify and develop profitable new client relationships by leveraging centers of influence, existing clients & referral sources.

  • Meet with customers on a regular basis to enhance the trusted advisor relationship and ensure business needs are being met.

  • Attend community and industry specific conferences and/or meetings to broaden relationship networks, referral sources and continually deepen knowledge of trends, practices, services and competitive landscape.

  • May require business trips within and/or outside of the state of California.

POSITION SPECIFICATION

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent

  • 3 to 6 years in banking or financial services industries experience

  • 1 to 2 years in business development/Sales experience

  • Fluent in one of the following languages: Japanese (Verbal and Written)

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

  • Experience with Business & Personal Deposit Accounts, Products such as Foreign Exchange, online banking, business lending, cash management, etc.

  • Experience with new accounts and documentation requirements.

  • Considerable understanding of Financial Statements, Business and Personal Tax Returns.

Preferable

  • Knowledge of Trade Finance
