PerkSpot is searching for a Director of Human Resources to join our People Operations team. Founded in 2006, we are on a Mission to Save Our Members Money by providing exclusive access to the best discounts available - anywhere. We ensure employees see offers curated to their interests, allowing them to save on electronics, home goods, meal delivery, mortgages, travel, and all the other little—and big—things that will make life a bit easier.

The Director of Human Resources must demonstrate strong commitment to our Mission to Save People Money and to our Values. Reporting to our SVP, People Operations & Chief of Staff, this role will lead our HR, Benefits and Talent Acquisition for our diverse 125-strong team spread across the United States. Based in Chicago, this role has two direct reports and will be a member of the Leadership Group of senior staff at the company.

This role comes with a great deal of trust and autonomy. Be willing to try new things, learn from what doesn’t work, and make the things that do work even better. We’re looking for someone with an entrepreneurial spirit that has ‘been there, done that’ for the most core strategic HR work but remains unafraid to stretch outside of their comfort zone to make a positive impact on our business and our amazing people.

We are focused on candidates living in the Chicagoland area with an expectation of a minimum of one week per month working from our main office in Chicago. No relocation support is available at this time. Target compensation is between $130,000 and $150,000, which includes base salary and annual bonus opportunity.

This role has three core priorities:

  • Develop and manage the systems and processes related to performance management, such as mid-year and year-end reviews.

  • PerkSpot uses the Lattice platform and works on a system of OKRs that are developed quarterly and semi-annually. The Director will partner with all leaders to create a culture of performance around measurable results based on our business plan and observable behaviors anchored in our Values.

  • Own talent acquisition for our business, resulting in roughly 10-20 hires per year.

  • PerkSpot does not use outside agency support for recruiting, except in rare instances of very senior roles or highly specialized positions. The Director will partner with our HR Manager to personally own recruiting processes and get directly involved in managing the hiring of 1-2 positions per month, which occasionally involves outreach to passive candidates directly sourced. PerkSpot leverages JazzHR and LinkedIn Recruiter for hiring needs.

  • Implement and iterate on culture & engagement initiatives designed to foster improvements in the work environment and generate Pride in PerkSpot as an employer.

  • PerkSpot conducts several employee surveys per year and also has working groups related to our Values and DEI. The Director will be a key partner and coach to support those groups and ensure their work is informed by PerkSpot’s business goals and the behavioral standards of our Values.

What else you’ll accomplish:

  • Lead, coach and inspire two direct reports, providing on-going feedback and supporting their professional development

  • Build a reputation as a critical sounding board and business partner for leaders, including coaching and guidance on employee relations, morale, team development, and other day-to-day needs of the organization.

  • Manage all aspects of compensation and benefits, including promotion standards, reporting, open enrollment admin, benefits education, and broker relationship management.

  • Partner with General Counsel ensure all people-related processes, procedures, and policies comply with local, state, and federal guidelines

  • Provide excellent counsel and guidance on US employment practices and handle employee relations matters, including investigations and disciplinary procedures, including all necessary reporting and documentation.

  • Maintains HR information in HR systems and partner with Finance on matters of budget planning, compensation planning and other related matters

What We’re Looking For

  • 8-10+ years HR experience in an SMB organization (50-250 employees), SHRM or related certification preferred

  • Experience with popular HR, recruiting, and payroll tools; experience with Lattice, JazzHR, and Paycor preferred but not required

  • Experience with OKR methodology and/or quarterly goal-setting frameworks preferred

  • Experience building compensation frameworks and compensation analysis; familiarity with processes and mechanics of simple equity (i.e. common shares, PIUs) programs is a plus

  • Independent and courageous, capable of challenging the status quo in pursuit of the best outcome for our business, our people, and our culture

  • Scrappy, never letting perfect be the enemy of the good except in areas where there is significant risk to health & safety of employees (e.g. employee relations) or risk to the business (e.g. compliance matters)

  • Experience developing simple, but impactful, trainings on people processes, including performance management, inclusion, coaching, employee engagement, and other topics

  • Confident facilitator, able to manage group meetings of 15-20 people both virtually and in-person

  • Passionate mentor and coach, committed to creating stretch opportunities for both their own team members and others across the business
