The Position

Accounting Assistants perform clerical accounting work in the maintenance of accounts and accounting records for State agencies.

PER EXECUTIVE ORDER 2023-11, ALL MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS HAVE BEEN WAIVED FOR THIS POSITION UNTIL JUNE 30TH, 2024. Please refer to the link for more information: https://gov.nv.gov/Newsroom/ExecOrders/Executive-Orders/ Incumbents function as first-line supervisors who train, supervise and evaluate the performance of assigned staff; assign and review work; and initiate disciplinary action.

This position is located at the Controller's Office in Carson City. The incumbent will supervise lower-level accounting positions, which includes hiring, developing work performance standards, providing training and guidance, directing, and monitoring daily activity, resolving issues, providing backup during vacancies and absences, completing performance reviews, and initiating appropriate disciplinary actions when necessary. This position provides technical fiscal support; monitors and maintains accounting and other related records; prepares a variety of fiscal documents; reviews and approves transactions of subordinate staff; provides support for processing work programs and related transactions; completes deposit reconciliation; and chart of account maintenance. The ability to meet deadlines, prioritize and organize workload and maintaining professional and cooperative interactions with the public, other agency staff, and internal staff is essential. Supervisory experience is preferred. To Qualify:

In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:

Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications)

Graduation from high school or equivalent education and four years of progressively responsible clerical accounting experience which included duties such as responsibility for accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll and/or other accounting data; developing computer spreadsheets to record, track, organize, and report accounting related data; researching and interpreting financial data to prepare reports and respond to budget and accounts related inquiries; reconciling accounts; and making corrections through the use of journal vouchers; OR one year of experience as an Accounting Assistant III in Nevada State service which included clerical accounting duties as described above; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience as described above.

A valid driver's license or evidence of equivalent mobility is required at the time of appointment and as a condition of continued employment.

Additional Position Criteria

This recruitment is only open to current classified employees in state service with at least six months of continuous, full-time equivalent service.
