Job Summary/Basic Function:
Provide in-depth, specialized, and/or comprehensive advising to students
regarding class choices, Honors curriculum options, majors, Honors
College and University policies and procedures, and other academic
needs.
Department Overview:
More than 1000 students representing every department on campus
participate in the Honors College at Boise State. These students are
ambitious, hard-working and fully engaged in their education. Graduates
from the program go on to receive national scholarships, land in top
graduate schools around the world and begin exciting new careers.
Level Scope:
Recognized subject matter expert who knows how to apply theory and put
it into practice with in-depth understanding of the professional field
with limited oversight from managers. Independently performs the full
range of responsibilities within the function; requires deep job
knowledge of area typically obtained through higher education combined
with experience. Manages large projects or processes and problems faced
are difficult and often complex; analyzes problems/issues of diverse
scope and determines solutions. May manage programs that include
formulating strategies and administering policies, processes, and
resources; functions with a high degree of autonomy. Influences others
regarding policies, practices and procedures.
Essential Functions:
60% of the time the Academic Advisor, Senior will:
- Reply to student questions related to Honors curriculum and advise
students in matters related to Honors curriculum and their majors.
- Coordinate communication of information related to important dates,
deadlines and procedures to advisees.
- Monitors student progress and suggests and implements corrective
actions with students encounter academic difficulties. Meets with
students with academic probation suspension or academic misconduct
issues.
- Keeps current on university and college policies and procedures, and
rules and regulations to assist students in meeting academic
requirements.
35% of the time the Academic Advisor, Senior will:
- Conduct graduation checks and approve students for graduation from
the Honors College.
- Work with the associate dean to process and approve substitution
requests.
- Maintain data related to retention and graduation numbers.
- Represent the Honors College at summer orientations or other
campus-wide events.
- Attend Honors-specific events that relate to student success.
- On occasion, train other academic advisors or peer advisors.
5% of the time the Academic Advisor, Senior will:
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:
- Ability to work effectively with faculty, staff, students,
administrators as well as external agencies/groups and the public.
- Demonstrated experience with outreach, promotion, and/or public
relations activities.
- Experience multitasking, balancing and prioritizing the competing
demands of overlapping application timelines.
- Good knowledge of: written, verbal, and pre entation skills;
university policies.
- Experience: advising and mentoring university students for high
impact educational experiences; awareness of the unique challenges
facing high achieving students.
Minimum
Qualifications:
Bachelor\'s or Advanced Degree and 5 years of professional experience or
equivalent relevant experience.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Familiarity with Honors College or Honors Programs; familiarity with
university curriculum.
Salary and Benefit

Salary starts at \$58,000 annually, commensurate with experience. Boise
