PRINCIPLE ACTIVITIES:
Drafts, edits, and proofreads complex legal papers and correspondence of
a legal nature such as motions, briefs, and other pleadings.
Performs legal research using on-line databases and other sources.
Analyzes and summarizes research and draws conclusions as directed by
assigned attorneys.
Contacts, schedules, and assists with the preparation of witnesses.
Assists in securing exhibits and other relevant documentation for
hearings.
Works to ensure that case files are properly organized and complete.
Files documents in state and federal court, including e-filing.
Responsible for tracking and ensuring that all filing and response
deadlines are met.
Performs specialized duties in support of assigned attorneys
responsibilities. These vary depending on assigned attorneys and may
include, but are not limited to: organizing information and docketing
dates for the administrative hearings process; assisting with third
party liability negotiations and collections; reviewing and/or
responding to HIPAA and Open Records Act requests for information;
assisting in the fraud review and referral process; assisting in
reviewing audit appeal cases; etc.
Performs support duties for assigned attorneys as requested, such as
answering telephones and attempting to resolve inquiries and issues
during attorneys absence, scheduling meetings and conferences, typing
and editing documents, and handling incoming mail.
Performs other duties as may be assigned by General Counsel or Deputy
General Counsels.\
TRAVEL: The position does require occasional travel by both public
and private conveyance and the ability to drive.
KNOWLEDGE AND BACKGROUND REQUIREMENTS\
QUALIFICATIONS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be
able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.\
The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge,
skill, and/or ability required.\
EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:
Paralegal Certificate and/or Associates Degree in Paralegal Studies AND
two years of experience as a paralegal or legal assistant OR
High school diploma or equivalent education AND at least three (3) years
of experience as a paralegal or legal assistant\
PREFERENCE MAY BE GIVEN TO CANDIDATES WITH:
Paralegal or Legal Assistant formal training or certification
Extensive experience drafting and filing legal documents
Medicaid or other healthcare experience
Administrative law or other governmental agency experience.\
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
Must be able to remain sitting for prolonged periods at a desk and
working on a computer.
Must be able to move or lift up to 15 pounds at various times.\
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
The office work environment includes regular exposure to general office
equipment such as computer equipment, phones, and copy machines.
