FUNCTION:
Full-time position, which provides paralegal, secretarial, and related administrative support operations for the County Attorneys Office; assists with preparing and filing of court documents; does related work as required. The work is performed under the general direction of assigned attorneys, the Office Administrator, and the Legal Office Supervisor.
EXAMPLES OF DUTIES:
- Performs a variety of complex paralegal, secretarial and administrative support processes and procedures.
- Analyzes a variety of subject matter required to determine appropriate actions to be implemented within the office.
- Studies case files and prepares proposed court orders.
- Originates provisions where guidelines are not available.
- Submits drafts.
- Attends court hearings.
- Retrieves criminal history information, obtains prior conviction records of accused felons for inclusions in trial documents.
- Researches and investigates criminal records of potential defendants.
- Recommends level of legal action to be taken.
- Prepares exoneration orders for persons arrested but not charged or diverted.
REQUIRED:
- Associate's Degree in Paralegal Studies, Legal Assistant, Criminal Justice or closely related field; and
- One (1) years' paralegal, legal assistant, or legal secretary experience; or
- Any equivalent combination of experience and training totaling three (3) years.
- May be required to become CJIN/NCIC certified within six (6) month probationary period, if applicable;
- May be required to become a Notary Public within six (6) month probationary period, if applicable.
