Posting Summary | Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey is seeking a Accounting Assistant I for the Bloustein School of Public Planning and Policy. This position reports to the Business Manager.Among the key duties of the position are the following: - Provides independent accounting, budget, and administrative support to the Business Manager and Director at the National Transit Institute (NTI).
- Day-to-day accounting, purchasing, payroll, and bill payment functions.
- Maintains of financial records and accounts.
- Monitors accounts, reconciling payments to accounts and making appropriate adjustments.
- Prepares documents relating to grants, including budgets, endorsements, sub-contracts, and consulting agreements, financial reports and analysis, and other related material.
- Provides assistance related to miscellaneous accounting and administrative matters as needed.

Minimum Education and Experience | - Requires a bachelor's degree or an equivalent combination of education and/or experience in a business/accounting-related field.
- Also requires two years of related accounting/grant management experience that demonstrates knowledge and understanding of grant/contract administration.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities | - Excellent oral and written communication skills, organizational and management abilities.
- Proven problem-solving and interpersonal skills with experience providing complex, confidential administrative support and accounting.
- Must be computer literate and proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Access database management, including compiling and analyzing statistical data and reports.
- All university applications used for conducting business (Cornerstone applications purchasing, general ledger, projects, human resources/payroll, I-9/e-verify, commitment accounting, expense management, and all related reporting tools).
- Various systems within the university for maintaining building access, directory feed, parking access, registration system.
- Visio.
- Individual must be willing to learn new systems as they are introduced to the University for functions normally supported by the office.

Preferred Qualifications | - Experience with university or corporate business/financial and human resource applications. Interests in professional development opportunities, including enhancement programs related to professional work skills, software and computer applications, and communications skills.
- An understanding of university policies, practices, systems, and procedures.
