Job Overview:

RWJBarnabas Health is looking to add a qualified Per Diem Diet Aide in Somerville, NJ. This role provides nutritional care services to patients by assisting in the implementation of selected prescribed dietary regimens.

Qualifications:

Required:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent

  • Schedule requires every other weekend and some holidays

Preferred:

  • BS Degree- nutrition or health related field

  • 1-2 years in health care related facility in comparable position

Certifications and Licenses Required:

  • Licenses/Registrations/Certifications as applicable

Scheduling Requirements:

  • Day Shift

  • Per Diem Schedule

Essential Functions:

  • Coordinates various aspects and task functions of the diet office with the patient tray service

  • Visits patients and families to obtain menu selections

  • Applies knowledge related to diet principles in order to meet diet order restrictions or requests

  • Uses the Foods list appropriately to offer only compliant items

  • Enters patient preferences and allergies correctly

  • Ensures all special requests are compliant to diet guidelines

  • Verifies menu selections

  • Works closely with the dietitians, communicates any food issues with dietitian and/or supervisor

  • Prints tray tickets and tallies to ensure meals are appropriate and on time

  • Maintains out patient meal schedules such as ER, Cardiac Cath

  • Able to verbalize patient choices clearly and accurately

  • Provides laminated menu for patients that prefer visual menu

  • Reads back menu selections

  • Informs patient of special diet

  • Refers to RD for any diet education if requested
