JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

Penn State Sustainability (SustainPSU) is seeking an energetic and innovative entry-level Student Engagement Coordinator to manage, implement, and help design both existing and new student- and public-facing programming that advances understanding of and engagement with sustainability practices.

This Student Engagement Coordinator position will be pivotal in enhancing first-year student engagement through sustainability initiatives. The Coordinator will dedicate a majority of their time to advising, mentoring, and supervising our undergraduate Campus Sustainability Ambassadors/EcoRep program in their campus-wide peer-to-peer education. Focal areas will be

  • Supporting EcoReps in the execution of key programming offerings such as America Recycles Day, Campus Race to Zero-Waste, Earth Hour, and Earth Day;

  • Serving as an advisor and mentor to a cohort of undergraduate campus sustainability ambassadors; and

  • Working collaboratively with Residence Life, Housing, Dining & Transportation Services, Student Affairs Service and Leadership, Undergraduate Education, as well as the Office of the Physical Plant Waste Minimization unit to ensure deep integration of EcoReps work into operational aspects of university life.

In addition to EcoReps, this position will also serve as the primary point of contact for SustainPSU's ongoing support of integrating sustainability literacy and best practices into various large-scale campus-wide programming efforts, collaborating with organizations such as Movin’ On, Homecoming, THON, and other Affiliated Student Organizations.

A successful candidate for this position will have:

  • Minimally requires a Bachelor’s degree

  • One year of related experience (volunteer, internships, and student leadership qualifies) or equivalent is preferred.

  • Strong communication skills with a history of effectively conveying sustainability concepts to diverse audiences.

  • Proven leadership in undergraduate student roles, especially as a Campus Sustainability Ambassador or similar.

  • Exceptional organizational, time, and project management skills.

  • Experience navigating large organizational structures and effectively engaging with undergraduate populations; experience in sustainability program development preferred.

  • Robust collaborative abilities for effective team building and fostering an inclusive environment, including skill at advising and mentoring diverse teams of individuals .

  • Deep commitment to sustainability and advancing diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging, with a preference for experience in environmental and social justice initiatives.

  • Experience with event and budget management is also preferred.

This is a limited-term appointment funded for one year from start date with possible opportunity for extension.

This entry-level position offers professional development and mentorship, serving as a career launchpad for those interested in sustainability, educational programming, event management, communications, community engagement, student affairs , and higher education. Additionally, the role is a limited one-year term with potential renewal, based at University Park and may require occasional travel to Commonwealth Campuses. Flexible scheduling, including night and weekend hours, is required.

This position requires that you operate a motor vehicle as a part of your job duties. A valid driver’s license and successful completion of a motor vehicle records check will be required in addition to standard background checks.

The salary range for this position, including all possible grades is:

$46,400.00 - $67,300.00
