JOB SPECIFIC COMPETENCIES

Unit Dose Processing and Distribution 1. Accurately and efficiently fill unit dose carts and first doses

  1. Accurately and efficiently pull drugs to refill controlled access cabinets

  2. Accurately and efficiently deliver medications/supplies to designated areas

  3. Order medications/supplies to maintain appropriate par levels

  4. Restock medications/supplies

Sterile and Nonsterile Compounding/Preparations 1. Accurately and efficiently prepare all types of sterile products including SVP, LVP, chemotherapy, biotherapy and investigational agents

  1. Accurately and efficiently prepare extemporaneous compounds

  2. Repackaging bulk medications

  3. Order medications/supplies to maintain appropriate par levels

  4. Restock medications/supplies

Quality Assurance/Improvement and Project Management 1. Completes all assigned Quality Assurance and productivity reports including record keeping and appropriate follow up

  1. Researches/monitors problems, initiates corrective action and follow through until challenge is resolved

  2. Consistently provides input/suggestions for process improvements

  3. Completes/maintains all Institutional/Divisional requirements for licensure, mandatory education and testing. Including but not limited to EEE, Infection Control, TB testing and IV process validation

  4. Develop, implement and/or support special projects throughout the institution

  5. Maintain clean and organized work areas at all times

Professional Development 1. Participates in monthly internship meetings (including but not limited to preparation of drug monographs, prepared readings, engagement in discussions, etc.)

  1. Involved in at least one quality improvement project annually (to be presented at TSHP or other meeting as approved)

  2. Involvement with medication safety, pharmacy informatics, drug information, pharmacy education, and pharmacy research initiatives as assigned

Clinical Practice Initiative 1. Data collection as assigned

  1. Assists with monitoring and patient care activities under supervision for transitions of care, pharmacokinetic monitoring and dose adjustments, patient counseling, adjusting medication doses and schedules for organ dysfunction, and reviewing labs and doses for high-alert medications, and others as assigned.

REQUIREMENTS

Education: Active enrollment in an accredited Doctor of Pharmacy program.

Preferred Education: None

Certification: One of the following: Texas State Board of Pharmacy (TSBP) Pharmacist Intern license, Pharmacy Technician Registration or Pharmacy Technician Trainee Registration.

Preferred Certification: ACPE approved IV (sterile products) certification

Experience: None

Preferred Experience: 1 year experience in hospital or community pharmacy
