License: Property Taxes Appraiser Certification

Property Tax Appraiser Certification Persons who perform the duties or exercise the authority of an appraiser or auditor appraiser for property tax purposes as an employee of the state or any California county, city, or city and county. Fees: N/A Examination Frequency: Two to four times per year. Exam Locations: Varies. Experience Requirement: Must be currently employed by, or have a bona fide employment offer from the California State Board of Equalization, a California county assessor or city and county assessor, or a California county appraisal commission; and either be a graduate of an accredited four-year institution of higher education, or have the equivalent of a high school graduation and four years of relevant experience. Average Time to Process Application: 14 days. Renewal Period: Temporary (up to 12 months) until exam passed, then permanent. Special License Requirements: N/A Comments: 24 hours annual education requirement; 12 hours if advanced certification (completed course of study). This certification is required shortly after employment in jobs described above. One cannot obtain this certification before employment. Property Tax Assessment Analyst Certification Persons who perform the duties or exercise the authority of an assessment analyst for property tax purposes as an employee of a county, city, or city and county in which a resolution has been passed requiring such certification. Fees: N/A Examination Frequency: Two to four times per year. Exam Locations: Varies. Experience Requirement: Must be currently employed by, or have a bona fide employment offer from a California county assessor or city and county assessor in which a resolution has been passed requiring such certification upon recommendation of the assessor, for persons making decisions regarding changes in ownership and/or exemptions for property tax purposes. Average Time to Process Application: 14 days. Renewal Period: Temporary (up to 12 months) until exam passed, then permanent. Special License Requirements: N/A Comments: 24 hours annual education requirement; 12 hours if advanced certification (completed course of study).
