License: Gas Tester Certification

It is the policy of the Division that any person who performs the required gas testing in tunnels or underground mines, during the course of employment, shall obtain certification from the Division. Examination and certification of gas testers by the Mining and Tunneling Unit promotes the safe operation of underground mines and tunnels and ensures that gas testers possess adequate knowledge and competence in underground gas testing. Fees: Application: None; Examination: $15; License: None. Examination Frequency: As needed. Exam Locations: Contact Division of Occupational Safety and Health, Mining and Tunneling Unit. Experience Requirement: At least one year of underground experience. Knowledge of blasting methods, safety orders, and hazardous concentrations of gas. Average Time to Process Application: Varied. Renewal Period: 5 years. Special License Requirements: Proof of legal alienage. Comments: N/A Authority: California Labor Code, Sections 6710, 6711 and 7990-8002.
