Security guards are employed by licensed private patrol operators to protect persons or property and prevent theft. Requirements: o Be 18 or older. o Undergo a criminal history background check through the DOJ and the FBI. o Receive the eight (8) hour "Power to Arrest" training and pass the examination. “Power to Arrest” training is obtainable from a Bureau approved training facility or trainer. Application and Exam Fee - $55 DOJ Fingerprint Processing Fee - $32 FBI Fingerprint processing Fee - $17 Renewal Fee - $40 Delinquent Renewal ($40 renewal fee + $25 delinquency fee) - $65 The initial license is valid for 2 years. Each renewal cycle extends the registration for an additional 2 years. Eight (8) hours of continuing training must be completed annually (BPC 7583.6 and California Code of Regulations (CCR) Section 643). Average time to process an application is 60 days.
