DESCRIPTION OF OCCUPATION: A Private Detective conducts investigations, such as obtaining confidential information, seeking missing persons, or investigating crimes and thefts. They use many means to determine the facts, such as surveillance, searches, and interviewing people. They assist attorneys, businesses, and the public with a variety of legal, financial, and personal problems. REQUIREMENTS FOR LICENSING: Personal requirements: 1) Submit FBI fingerprint check through Hawaii Criminal Justice Data Center. 2) A Criminal History Record check. Experience requirements: At least 4 years of full-time investigational work experience. Education requirements: High school graduate or equivalent. EXAMINATIONS: Written exam with 75% score needed to pass. FEES: Between July 1, 2022 to June 30, 2023, pay $280 (license $34, compliance resolution fund $148, 1/2 renewal fee $98). OTHER: There were 20 licenses currently active as of February 24, 2022. ~ revised 12/16
