DESCRIPTION OF OCCUPATION: A Clinical Laboratory Specialist has the knowledge and experience of a Clinical Laboratory Technologist to work in only specified areas of the laboratory. REQUIREMENTS FOR LICENSING: Education and Experience requirements: 1) Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in a pertinent chemical, physical, or biological science PLUS 1 year of full-time experience in a lab acceptable to the Department in the specialty for which licensure is sought OR 1 year of training in an accredited program in the specialty for which licensure is sought; OR 2) Complete 90 semester hours in an accredited college or university [ask about course requirements] PLUS 1 year of training in an accredited program in the specialty for which licensure is sought. EXAMINATIONS: Pass a written national certification exam from an approved agency. APPLICATION AND FEES: $25 for application fee, $40 for license, $30 for renewal every 2 years.
