GENERAL JOB DESCRIPTION Performs professional level counseling, guidance, and case load management functions or technology assessments, job development and job placement functions and basic public relations functions in a vocational rehabilitation program designed to assist individuals with physical or mental disabilities to achieve employment outcomes. EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS You must be a graduate of a college or university with a baccalaureate or master's degree in rehabilitation, guidance and/or counseling, sociology, psychology, social work, special education, or education with emphasis in vocational counseling or a related field. EXAMINATION REQUIREMENTS There are no examination requirements. An applicant's eligibility is assessed based on qualifications alone. A master's degree and certification appropriate to the job will be required for advancement. GENERAL INFORMATION for LICENSURE or CERTIFICATION A Federal mandate requires that Vocational Rehabilitation Specialists meet the statutory standard of a master's degree in rehabilitation or a closely related field. The Department expects certification appropriate to the job as a condition for reclassification of positions to a higher pay grade based on increased levels of duties and responsibilities. Certification expectations include Certified Rehabilitation Counselor (CRC), Certified Vocational Evaluation Specialist (CVE), Assistive Technology Practitioner administered by the Rehabilitation Engineering and Assistive Technology Society of North America (RESNA), Orientation and Mobility Specialist (O & M), Certified Rehabilitation Teacher, Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist, or Certified Driver Rehabilitation Specialist (CDRS).
