- Type C School Nurse—Licenses may be renewed for one three-year period upon request of the employing authority and the individual must present a copy of current Louisiana licensure as a registered professional nurse. In addition, Type C School Nurses must meet the following criteria: a) Must be a licensed registered nurse with at least 2 years experience. - Type B School Nurse—May renew license upon the presentation of 6 semester hours of nursing, education, or other health-related subjects completed since the Type B certificate was issued. In addition, the individual must present a copy of a current Louisiana licensure as a registered professional nurse. Additionally, Type B School Nurses must meet the following criteria: a) Hold current license as a registered professional nurse. b) Have a minimum of 3 years of experience as a Type C School Nurse. c) Have at least 6 semester hours of nursing, school nursing, education, or other health-related subjects from a regionally accredited college or university. - Type A School Nurse may renew license upon the presentation of six semester hours of nursing, education, or other health-related subjects completed since the Type B certificate was issued. Also must present a copy of a current Louisiana licensure as a registered professional nurse. Finally, Type A School Nurses must meet the following criteria: a) Hold current license as a registered professional nurse in the State of Louisiana, and have a baccalaureate degree “in nursing or a health related field” from a regionally accredited college or university. b) Have a minimum of five years of experience as a certified Type B school nurse.
