<h3>Occupational Description</h3><br>Licensed Superintendents work for local governing bodies at the county and/or city level. They administer city and county street and road programs; play a role in the preparation of the one-year and six-year plans or programs and budgets; supervise the annual program for roadway design, construction, and maintenance; and coordinate plans with adjacent government units. Many licensees hold both a city and county license. <br><h3>Licensure Requirements</h3><br>The sole requirement for the basic license (Class B) is successful completion of a six-hour written examination. A series of online training videos; five one-day pre-exam training classes; and a one-day exam preparation class is offered to applicants in preparation of the written examination. It is also desirable that applicants have work experience or education in road/street maintenance, design, construction, or administration. An advanced license (Class A) is open to those who have held a Class B License for two full calendar years and who have been employed as a superintendent for two years, or who have four years of comparable experience.<br><h3>Fees</h3><br>Examination & License (Class B)- $25.00 License (Class A)- $75.00 Examinations are administered in April and October. The application fee entitles an applicant to take the examination twice.<br><h3>Renewal</h3><br>Renewal is required every three years. Renewal fees are $30.00 for a Class B license and $50.00 for a Class A license. There is no mandatory requirement for continuing education for the basic license. However, seminars are offered by the Department of Transportation and the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, and are attended on a voluntary basis.
