License: Emergency Medical Service Provider

<h3>Occupational Description</h3><br>A Licensed Emergency Medical Service Provider may administer medical treatment as part of a Nebraska licensed Emergency Medical Service or in a health care setting (i.e. hospital or clinic) under the direction of a physician. Providers working for an Emergency Medical Service may transport injured or sick individuals to a medical facility. Emergency Medical Responder -An Emergency Medical Responder provides care in accordance with the knowledge and skill acquired through successful completion of an approved program for an Emergency Medical Responder.Such care includes, but is not limited to:· Contributing to the assessment of the health status of an individual;· Simple, noninvasive interventions;· Minimizing secondary injury to an individual. Emergency Medical Technician -An Emergency Medical Technician provides care in accordance with the knowledge and skill acquired through successful completion of an approved program for an Emergency Medical Technician.Such care includes, but is not limited to:· All of the acts that an Emergency Medical Responder can perform;· Simple invasive interventions, management, and transportation of individuals;· Non-visualized intubation. Advanced Medical Technician-An Advanced Medical Technician provides care in accordance with the knowledge and skill acquired through successful completion of an approved program for an Advanced Emergency Medical Technician.Such care includes, but is not limited to:· All of the acts that an Emergency Medical Technician is authorized to perform;· Complex interventions, treatments, and pharmacological interventions Emergency Medical Technician - Intermediate (EMT-I) -An EMT-I provides care in accordance with the knowledge and skill acquired through successful completion of an approved program for an Emergency Medical Technician-Intermediate.Such care includes, but is not limited to:· All of the acts that an Advanced Emergency Medical Technician can perform;· Visualized intubation. Paramedic-A Paramedic provides care in accordance with the knowledge and skill acquired through successful completion of an approved program for a Paramedic.Such care includes, but is not limited to:· All of the acts that an Emergency Medical Technician-Intermediate can perform;· Surgical cricothyrotomy.Community Paramedic - Community paramedic practice of emergency medical care means care provided by an advanced emergency medical technician, emergency medical technician, emergency medical technician-intermediate, or paramedic in accordance with the knowledge and skill acquired through successful completion of an approved program for a community paramedic at the respective licensure classification of the emergency care provider except for an emergency medical responder. Such care includes, but is not limited to:· The provision of telephone triage, advice, or other assistance to non-urgent 911 calls;· The provision of assistance or education to patients with chronic disease management, including post-hospital discharge follow-up to prevent hospital admission or readmission; and, · All of the acts that the respective licensure classification of an emergency care provider is authorized to perform.NOTE: This license level has been approved; however, is awaiting regulatory approval. Please check with the Office of Emergency Health Systems for further information. Critical Care Paramedic - Critical care paramedic practice of emergency medical care means care provided by a paramedic in accordance with the knowledge and skill acquired through successful completion of an approved program for a critical care paramedic. Such care includes, but is not limited to:· All of the acts that a paramedic is licensed to perform; · Advanced clinical patient assessment;· Intravenous infusions; and,· Complex interventions, treatments, and pharmacological interventions used to treat critically ill or injured patients within the critical care environment, including transport.NOTE: This license level has been approved; however, is awaiting regulatory approval. Please check with the Office of Emergency Health Systems for further information. <br><h3>Licensure Requirements</h3><br>Licensure RequirementsApplicants must:1. Be at least 18 years old;2. Be of good character;3. Have a high school diploma or its equivalent;4. Complete an approved training program5. Successfully pass the examination appropriate to the level of certification being sought.6. B a citizen of the United States, an alien lawfully admitted into the United States who is eligible for a credential under the Uniform Credentialing Act, or a nonimmigrant whose visa for entry, or application for visa for entry, is related to such employment in the United States.7. (Emergency Medical Technicians, Advanced Emergency Medical Technicians, and Paramedics Only): Have a fingerprint criminal background check through the Nebraska State Patrol.<br><h3>Fees</h3><br>No fee for initial or renewal at any license level.<br><h3>Renewal</h3><br>Emergency Medical Responder- 8 hours of continuing education that must meet the national component of the National Continuing Competency Program's continued competency requirements, -OR- National Registry Certification. Emergency Medical Technician- 20 hours of continuing education that must meet the national component of the National Continuing Competency Program's continued competency requirements, -OR- National Registry Certification. Advanced EMT- 25 hours of continuing education that must meet the national component of the National Continuing Competency Program's continued competency requirements and documentation of demonstrated proficiency in peripheral IV administration, non-visual airway management, and drug administration in a clinical, out-of-hospital, or educational setting; -OR- National Registry Certification. EMT Intermediate- 30 hours of continuing education, 20 hours in the subject matter of the Emergency Medical Technician course and 10 hours in the subject matter covering Emergency Medical Technician - Intermediate practice and procedures, as well as documentation of demonstrated proficiency in peripheral IV administration, endotracheal intubation in a clinical, out-of-hospital, or educational setting; -OR- National Registry Certification. Paramedic- 30 hours of continuing education that must meet the national component of the National Continuing Competency Program's continued competency requirements, as well as documentation of demonstrated proficiency in peripheral IV administration, endotracheal intubation, and drug administration and cardiac skills in a clinical, out-of-hospital, or educational setting; -OR- National Registry Certification.
