<p>Professional Geologists study composition, structure, and history of the earth's crust; examine rocks, minerals, and fossil remains to identify and determine the sequence of processes affecting the development of the earth; apply knowledge of chemistry, physics, biology, and mathematics to explain these phenomena and to help locate mineral and petroleum deposits and underground water resources; prepare geologic reports and maps, and interpret research data to recommend further action for study.</p> <p><strong>Legislation:</strong> NH RSA 310-A:118; Administrative Rules Chapter Geo 100-500</p> <p><strong>Licensure Requirements:</strong></p> <ul><li>Must be of good professional character</li> <li>A Bachelor's degree in geology or a related field which included 30 credit hours or 45 quarter hours in geology from an accredited four-year college</li> <li>All candidates must pass the Fundamentals of Geology and the Practice of Geology written examinations</li> <li>Five years experience in the practice of geology, of which at least three years must have been under the supervision of a professional geologist</li></ul> <p><strong>Examination:</strong> Written examination required, offered twice each year (March and September)</p> <p><strong>Continuing Education:</strong> A minimum of 24 professional development hours per biennium</p> <p><strong>Fees:</strong></p> <ul><li>Professional geologist application: $225</li> <li>Fundamentals of geology examination: $250</li> <li>Practice of geology examination: $250</li> <li>Biennial renewal: $150</li> <li>Certificate of licensure: $50</li> <li>Verification of licensure: $25</li></ul> <p><strong>Reciprocity:</strong> Permitted, providing requirements of the licensing jurisdiction are substantially equivalent to those of this state, and verification of licensure and examination are submitted to the Board</p> <p>revised Feb 2016</p>
