JOB DESCRIPTION: An audiologist examines and evaluates persons who have or are suspected of having a hearing disorder. Audiologists are also concerned with the prevention of hearing impairment and the conservation of hearing in children and adults. They assess the type and degree of hearing impairment and add those findings to educational, medical, behavioral, and other diagnostic data to establish a program of auditory training, speech reading, or counseling for the individual. Educational institutions; speech, language, and hearing centers; and health care institutions largely employ audiologists.
