Polysomnographic Technologists <br><br>An individual who is licensed to practice polysomnography which involves the staging and scoring of sleep by continuous and simultaneous monitoring of the stages of sleep and wake through use of an electroencephalogram (EEG) and other methods to record and monitoring of other physiological variables, in order to assign values for duration, frequency and type of each stage of sleep.<br><br> REQUIREMENTS:<br> An applicant shall complete an application that can be obtained from the Polysomnography Professional Standards Committee. An applicant shall have the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation send the result of a criminal background check of the applicant directly to the Committee Office. An applicant shall complete and obtain a passing score on the national certifying exam given by the board of registered polysomnographic technologists. <br><br> EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS:<br>Graduation from a respiratory care educational program that is accredited by the commission on accreditation of allied health education programs and completion of the curriculum for a polysomnography certificate or successful completion of an accredited sleep technologist educational accredited by the American Academy of Sleep Medicine, Or other program of education as certified by the board. <br><br> EXAMINATION REQUIREMENTS: <br> An applicant shall complete and obtain a passing score on the national certifying exam given by the board of registered polysomnographic technologists. <br><br> CONTINUING EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS: <br> Must complete 10 hours of continuing education each calendar year to be able to renew license. <br><br> RENEWAL: <br> Two years <br><br> PROFESSIONAL ORGANIZATIONS: <br> Board of Registered Polysomnographic Technologists
