OCCUPATIONAL HEALTH AND SAFETY TECHNICIANS SOC Code 29-9012 Entry Salary $17.37/hr Average Salary $23.40/hr Job Description Mine examiners perform safety inspections of the working places in gassy underground mines (coal and trona). They check for methane and other noxious gasses. They check the direction and amount of air flow, the ground conditions at each working place and the haulage ways leading to them. These checks are performed prior to the start of each shift. Requirements 1.Must be at least 23 years of age. 2.Must have two years verifiable experience, of a hands on nature, in the type of mine for which he or she desires to hold a certificate. 3.A degree as a mine engineer will serve as credit for one year of experience. 4.Must pass the required written and oral examinations. 5.Must be trained in the particular mineral for which examinations will be conducted. Restrictions None. School Located in Wyoming Review classes are held each year at the Northern Wyoming Community College District in Gillette and Western Wyoming College, Green River Campus prior to the examination. Contact those schools for times. License The Wyoming Mining Council (Department of Workforce Services) issues competency certificates for mine examiners. Examination The examination is administered during May in Rock Springs and Gillette.
