The PM Examination is a four-hour computer-based exam that consists of 200 multiple-choice questions, each with a single best answer. All 200 questions must be answered. The exam is designed to evaluate the candidate's knowledge and clinical judgment in all areas specific to pain medicine.

The Pain Medicine (PM) Examination is administered by the ABA annually at Pearson VUE external site testing centers.

Specialty

The certification corresponds to a specialty within a recognized occupation. For example, Oncology Nurse and Pediatric Nurse are specialties within the nursing field, so Certified Oncology Nurse and Certified Pediatric Nurse would be classified as specialty certifications.
