JOB DESCRIPTION: An electrical inspector inspects the installation of electrical systems to ensure compliance with electrical codes and standards and correct functioning. During construction or remodeling, the inspector visits the site of residential, commercial or industrial structures. The inspector normally reviews electrical plans, examines wiring and circuit capabilities, and advises construction supervisors if a violation exists. The inspector is also responsible for maintaining inspection records. Electrical inspectors are largely employed in local and state governments operating from building departments, with a small number employed in private industry.
