Requirements 1. Completion of a graduate or post-graduate level advanced practice registered nurse educational program. 2. Provide documentation verifying national certification in the advanced practice registered nurse role and at least one population focus area of practice for which they are educationally prepared. The program should be nationally accredited by the American Board of Nursing Specialties (ABNS) or the National Commission for Certifying Agencies (NCCA). 3. Pass a mandatory criminal background check. Continuing Education An APRN shall demonstrate continuing competency by submitting evidence of current national certification as an APRN in the recognized role and population focus area or If recognized as an APRN in the State prior to January 1, 1999, and has maintained continuous licensure, but is not nationally certified, the APRN shall submit evidence of sixty hours of continuing education related to the APRNs recognized role and population focus area and four hundred hours of active nursing practice as an APRN during the last two years. An APRN with prescriptive authority shall also submit evidence of three hours of continuing education related to the responsible prescribing of controlled substances or treatment of substance abuse disorders.
