Software that acts as a router between a local area network (LAN) and a point-to-point protocol (PPP) or serial line internet protocol (SLIP) link, and allows transparent access from the LAN to the Internet using a single IP address through network address translation (NAT). It can also act as a PPP server for dial-in connections, or route between LANs.
